Superga is not one among many, no simple canvas shoe: it is the image of Italian excellence in the world, born from a revolutionary intuition at the beginning of the twentieth century. Walter Martiny, from Turin, in 1911 founded a company producing vulcanised rubber articles. Footwear was still a long way away when the factory produced inner tubes for bicycles and components for toys. In fact, it wasn't until 1929 that the first model with a canvas upper and low rubber sole was produced, named Superga in honour of the basilica of the same name that dominates Turin. A story that continued at supersonic speed and went from zero to a hundred in just a few years: on tennis courts, basketball courts and athletics fields, people trained and competed in Superga. It is the Eighties and Nineties to consecrate them as footwear legends, versatile shoes that young people wore 24 hours a day, combined with thick terry socks, Bermuda shorts, baggy jeans, in summer and winter, without ever losing their appeal. The 00s mark the relaunch of the classic Superga canvas shoe that, originally was mostly white or blue. This brown model keeps its history intact.
